Questions
What couples ask us
Do you take my insurance?
Alcove is out of network with every plan and does not bill insurance. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid. We give you an itemized receipt each month that you can send to your plan, and your plan decides whether it reimburses anything.
What is a superbill and how do I use it?
It is an itemized receipt with the dates and kind of each session and a diagnosis code. You send it to your insurer to ask for reimbursement for out-of-network care. Reimbursement is not guaranteed, and the diagnosis code is visible to your insurer.
What is a Good Faith Estimate?
If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We send one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.
How much does a session cost and how do fees work?
What sets your fee is the length of the session and which clinician you see, and your fee is given to you in writing before you start. You pay at the end of each session. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open; ask how to request one.
Can we use an HSA or FSA card?
Yes. Most HSA and FSA cards work like any other card at the end of a session. Your plan's rules decide what it covers; ask it if you are unsure.
What happens in the first session?
Both of you come for 80 minutes. We explain how we work, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and each of you says what you hope for. There is no homework and no decision to make that day.
How often will we meet, and for how long?
Your clinician sets the pace with you. Many couples meet every week or every other week at first. We do not promise a number of sessions.
Are you licensed where I live?
Both clinicians are licensed in Indiana. By video we see people who are in Indiana during the session. If you are elsewhere, we will help you find someone licensed where you live.
What do I do in a crisis?
Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock, so do not wait for us to answer.
What is confidential and what are the limits?
We keep your records private and share them only as the law allows. In couples therapy, what each of you says in the room is part of the work with both of you. Before you start we explain the limits in writing, and we do not keep secrets between partners.
Can a parent or in-law come to a session?
Yes, when both of you ask and agree. It is your decision, not ours, and we talk first about what each of you wants from that session.
What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for 24 hours' notice to change or cancel an appointment. If you cannot give it, write to us and we will talk about it.
